From Inquiry to Production: A 90-Day Cross-Border Delivery Diary of a Fiber Optic Cable Production Line

Over the years of exporting cable equipment, the question I hear most often from overseas customers is: “From signing the contract to producing the first reel of cable – how long does it actually take?”

Today, let me tell a real story. The customer is in Southeast Asia. From the first inquiry to the first reel of cable coming off the line, it took 90 days. Let me walk through what happened during those 90 days, in timeline order.

Day 1: Inquiry – The Customer Said Only Three Sentences

That day I received a very brief email:

“We need an optical fiber cable production line for FTTH drop cable. What is your best price?”

No capacity mentioned, no factory location, no voltage system.

I replied with three questions:

  1. Which country is your factory in?

  2. What type of cable do you mainly produce? (Loose-tube / FTTH / indoor cable)

  3. Approximately how many kilometers per month?

The next day, the customer replied: Indonesia, FTTH butterfly drop cable, 500 km per month.

Day 3: Proposal – Starting from an Equipment List

Based on the customer’s requirements, we recommended the FTTH optical cable manufacturing machine as the core equipment, supported by a fiber coloring machine and an indoor optical fiber production line for front-end processing.

Since the customer might later expand into loose-tube cables, the proposal reserved expansion interfaces for an SZ stranding line and a fiber optic cable sheathing line.

The preliminary configuration and quotation for the complete fiber optic cable production line were sent to the customer within 5 working days.

Day 7: Confirming Details – Voltage and Certification Are Key

The customer confirmed the proposal but raised two questions:

First, Indonesia’s voltage is 230V/50Hz – can the equipment be adapted?

Second, what certification is required to export equipment to Indonesia?

On voltage: Hongkai equipment can be adapted to the Southeast Asian 230V/50Hz system – just confirm before signing the contract. On certification: Indonesia has no mandatory certification requirements for cable equipment, but if the customer exports, we recommend the equipment meet CE standards. We provided a CE technical documentation template for the customer’s reference.

Day 15: Contract Signed – Delivery Time Written into the Terms

The contract was signed. For the complete optical fiber cable production line, from contract effectiveness to factory release, 45 to 60 days was agreed.

The customer specifically asked: “When the equipment arrives in Indonesia, who installs it?”

We told them: engineers go on-site – 12 to 18 days from unpacking to producing the first reel of cable.

Day 45: Equipment Leaves the Factory – Factory Test Report Shipped with Equipment

Equipment manufacturing completed. Every fiber optic cable making machine underwent load testing before factory release.

  • Fiber coloring machine: Pay-off tension accuracy ±0.05 N

  • Secondary coating line for optical fiber: Excess length control accuracy ±0.2‰

  • SZ stranding line: Pay-off tension fluctuation ≤ ±0.4 N, stranding pitch deviation ≤ ±0.08 mm

  • Fiber optic cable sheathing line: Concentricity ≥ 98.6%, wall thickness tolerance ≤ 0.04 mm

Factory test report, PLC program backup USB drive, bilingual operation manuals (Chinese/English), wear-parts kit – all shipped with the equipment.

Day 52: Equipment Arrives at Port – Customs Documents Prepared in Advance

The equipment departed from Guangzhou Nansha Port and arrived at Jakarta Port after 7 days by sea. Customs documents were prepared in advance: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin. Equipment models matched the contract – customs clearance went smoothly.

Day 60: Engineers Arrive – Unpacking, Installation, Commissioning

Hongkai engineers arrived at the customer’s factory. Unpacking inspection, mechanical installation, electrical wiring, dry commissioning, load commissioning, linked commissioning – following the process step by step.

On Day 12, the first qualified reel of cable came off the line. Under the engineers’ guidance, the customer’s operators independently completed a changeover – switching from 12-fiber to 24-fiber, with one-touch recipe loading, completed in an hour and a half.

Day 90: Official Production – Remote Support Continuously Online

After the engineers left, the equipment went into official production. Every machine comes with a standard wear-parts kit; spare parts arrive via DHL within three days. Remote video support with a two-hour response during working hours.

The customer later sent a message: “The first reel of cable has already been shipped to our customer.”

Why Do Overseas Customers Choose Us?

First, equipment precision comes with data. Every fiber optic cable making machine comes with a factory test report – the data matches up.

Second, delivery lead time is controllable. Complete lines leave the factory in 45 to 60 days – no delay to factory construction schedules.

Third, installation and commissioning are handled. Engineers go on-site – 12 to 18 days from unpacking to producing the first reel.

Fourth, certification and compliance are complete. CE technical documentation, bilingual manuals, and electrical schematics shipped with the equipment.

Fifth, spare parts and after-sales keep up. Wear-parts kit shipped with equipment, DHL delivery within three days, remote support with two-hour response.

Sixth, voltage systems can be adapted. North America 480V/60Hz, Europe 400V/50Hz, Southeast Asia 230V/50Hz – configured before factory release.

Seventh, the product line covers the entire process. From fiber optic coloring line and loose tube line to indoor optical fiber production line – everything in one package.

📩 Get Your Customized Proposal

If you are procuring a fiber optic cable production line for an overseas project, or want to learn about specific equipment factory test data and technical configurations, feel free to contact the Hongkai technical team.

Just tell us three things:

  1. What type of cable do you want to make? (Loose-tube / FTTH / indoor cable)

  2. Where will the factory be built? (This affects voltage system and certification requirements)

  3. Approximately what capacity? (How many kilometers per month or per year)

We will provide a preliminary equipment configuration proposal and quotation within 5 working days.
